Matthew Marks Gallery: Gallery Assistant- Open Until FilledDeadline: June 30, 2012Matthew Marks Gallery seeks a full-time gallery assistant. This position encompasses a wide range of duties. The ideal candidate is an extremely organized, personable individual with an art history background and gallery administrative experience able to perform a multitude of tasks in a fast-paced, occasionally high pressure environment. Responsibilities will include: greeting visitors; maintaining artist biographies; selling catalogues; answering questions from the public; preparing sales packages for clients; preparing checklists for exhibitions; making travel arrangements for gallery directors; preparing press release and announcement card mailings; as well as additional miscellaneous support for the Directors. Chief Curator at Whitechapel Gallery, LondonDeadline: June 25, 2012For over a century the Whitechapel Gallery has premiered world-class artists from modern masters such as Barbara Hepworth, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Gerhard Richter, and Frida Kahlo; to contemporaries such as Sophie Calle, Isa Genzken, Wilhelm Sasnel, and Thomas Struth. The Chief Curator is a senior position working closely with the Director. The successful candidate will bring a strong curatorial vision and an engagement with new developments in art and visual culture around the world. They will help shape the future artistic programme, devise specific exhibitions, projects, and publications; and articulate, through public talks and writings, the ideas and issues that inform contemporary practice. They will also be engaged with 20th-century art history from a global perspective, curating occasional historical surveys. The Chief Curator will provide editorial guidance for Whitechapel Gallery interpretation, publicity texts, and publications. The Chief Curator will have responsibility for the Exhibitions Department, working with the team on the realization of projects with artists, lenders, and arts institutions. The post includes strategic and senior management responsibility for the organization and delivery of the artistic programme, artistic liaison, production of catalogues, and limited editions. The Chief Curator will work alongside all members of the exhibition team, internal departments, and with the professional art world to ensure an efficient running of the exhibitions programme. They will also contribute to enhancing the Whitechapel Gallery's reputation as a centre for artistic excellence and intellectual rigour. SLADE PROFESSORSHIP OF FINE ARTDeadline: June 24, 2012The Slade Professorship of Fine Art was established in 1869 as the result of a generous bequest in the will of Felix Slade. A list of former holders of the Professorship in the past forty years is attached at the end of these further particulars. It is the intention of the Board of Electors to elect a Professor for each of the academic years 2015-16 to 2019-20. The duty of the Professor is to deliver a series of lectures and classes on aspects of the History, Theory and Practice of Fine Arts. It is expected that the lectures will form part of a new scholarly project and that they will not have been given in the same format elsewhere (or published) before they are given in Cambridge. The lectures must be given in Full Term and are open free of charge to all members of the University. It is expected that eight weekly public lectures will be delivered during the course of either the Michaelmas or Lent terms, and that the Professor will offer a further four informal classes or seminars to the Department of History of Art during the same period. Any additional teaching outside the specified contribution will be reimbursed at a level to be approved by the relevant Faculty Board. |
Iran Heritage Foundation: Curator for Persian Manuscripts at British LibraryDeadline: June 22, 2012Curator will develop and manage digital access to the British Library’s Persian manuscript collection. This post offers a unique opportunity to become familiar with one of the largest and best-known collections in the world and to contribute to its future development and exploitation. Building on work already completed, main duties will be collating and putting online existing printed and non-printed catalogues, creating digital records, and working with colleagues on the web delivery of a digital catalogue. Curator will also assess and prioritize the collections with a view to identifying further cataloguing, digitization and research projects, and together with the Iran Heritage Foundation and the UK Higher Education sector, will seek to identify sources of funding, thus enabling strategic collaboration on the digitization of UK Persian manuscript material to be developed at a national level.
