Outcasting: Fourth Wall Festival, Cardiff, UK (Ongoing Deadline)

Outcasting: Fourth Wall (O:4W) is the first artists’ moving image festival for Cardiff, Wales. O:4W aims to take artists’ moving image to a wider public through a number of different platforms, venues and opportunities both virtual and physical using traditional screenings, installations and site specific commissions.

It is timed to coincide with a lot of activity in Cardiff over the two-month programme, including Artes Mundi 5, Cardiff Design Festival, Soundtrack Festival, Swn Festival and Made in Roath to attract maximum exposure for the participating artists.

At this stage artists, local, national and international are invited to register their interest for the festival by email only to michael@4wfilm.org. This call has a rolling deadline.

Caravansarai NOKTA Residency in Istanbul (Ongoing Deadline)

Caravansarai is an independent art production space and meeting point for creators in Istanbul, Turkey. NOKTA is your opportunity to work on a subject area of mutual curiosity. This residency is thematic and curated. During your stay at Caravansarai, your energy will be a directed inquiry into a topic discussed and agreed on before the artist’s arrival. 

Please note the NOKTA is NOT appropriate for individuals who would like to work on their own personal projects or who do not have a clear goal for their stay in Istanbul. We are not a large funded institution. Please consider the ways in which your project can be supported.

JamJar Residency Programme 2012 (Ongoing Deadline)

The jamjar Residency Programme provides a 4 week residency and 2 week exhibition opportunity to emerging and working artists based in the UAE to develop a new, experimental or continued body of work in a studio-based space. This allows the visual artist or a collaboration of artists to work in a dedicated space, an opportunity to exhibit and access to jamjar’s professional network and audience. The residencies give the public and students of the jamjar outreach and education programmes the opportunity to learn about the techniques and processes involved in creating art and appreciating aesthetic values. The selection committee comprises of thejamjar Art Director & Head of Special Projects.

CeRCCa Self Directed Residency (Ongoing Deadline)

Throughout the year, CeRCCa opens its program to artists, critics, researchers and curators interested in participating in self-directed residencies in Llorenç del Penedes, a quiet village located one hour outside of Barcelona and 10 minutes drive to the sea. The physical development of specific projects is not required during the residency at CeRCCA.

Self-directed residencies aim to facilitate a space for research, experimentation, meeting and discussion point to implement artistic and curatorial projects. Individuals who apply can live and work in the space for a maximum of two months and a minimum of two weeks. The programme hosts individuals or groups of 4 people maximum.

The periods available for Self-Directed Residencies are: 

20th August – 20th September 2011 

10th October – 10th November 2011 

10th March – 10th June 2012

Visual Cultures Program, Department of the Arts AUC: Open Call (Ongoing Deadline)

The Visual Cultures Program in the Department of the Arts at the American University in Cairo (AUC) invites artists, scholars, curators, and critics interested in engaging in upcoming academic and cultural events to submit their contact information for inclusion in future correspondence and exchange.

The Visual Cultures Program is seeking to expand partnerships with individuals and institutions at this historic time in the Middle East and North Africa to extend critical discourse on contemporary practice and art education in the region and to include professionals from a wide range of disciplines in upcoming regional and international conferences, art education initiatives, and exhibition programming at the Department’s Sharjah Art Gallery. The Sharjah Art Gallery is the artistic and cultural center of the Department of the Arts at The American University in Cairo. The gallery presents exhibitions and educational programming with a special focus on contemporary art in the Middle East and North Africa. Its cultural and educational mission is to present the work of innovative visiting artists and curators to enhance the discourse on contemporary visual arts and to advance partnerships with educational institutions throughout the region.

A Film Archive Project: Translating recently discovered Films into English (Ongoing Deadline)

“A Film Archive Project” is thrilled to announce the launch of a unique database of 850 film canisters that were recently discovered in Amman, Jordan. We were able to photograph every canister label and are looking for help from the international community to translate the Russian and Arabic labels. This a truly collaborative project with no ownership by any one person or institution This is DIY archiving.

This project is part of an ongoing effort to advocate the preservation, digitization, and distribution of these lost films and others like them in the Middle East region. To that end, once we can identify the titles on these cans, we can begin to work on them. Reels identified so far include an early short film by Mustapha Abu Ali, Tarkovsky, official speeches by regional leaders, and much much more.  Russian and Arabic speakers we desperately need you at this stage: please help us translate the titles of these reels into English!

Call for Submissions: Ajam Media Collective (Ongoing Deadline)

The Ajam Media Collective (AjamMC.com) is an online community dedicated to documenting and analyzing cultural, social, and political trends in the diverse Iranian, Central Asian, and Diaspora communities, and serves as a semi-scholarly resource by engaging with academics, activists, and students of the region.

Ajam is looking to expand the discussion, both geographically and thematically, in the following fields:
visual art
popular and traditional music
literature
gender and sexuality
history
urban landscapes
social movements
religion
photo essays

They welcome contributions from graduate students, undergraduates, and activists of all stripes. Those focusing on Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Diaspora communities are especially encouraged to contribute.

Submission of Photography, Jadaliyya (Ongoing Deadline)

Jadaliyya is hereby launching a Photography Page. The Photography Page aims to provide a space for reflection on photography in its various forms and uses in the Middle East. We showcase the work of photographers active in the region and cultivate critical thinking about photographic practices, representations, and history. The page publishes photo essays, articles, interviews, reviews and more. It also provides information on photographic archives, agencies, and institutions, exhibits, events, and publications.

ISCP International Studio & Curatorial Program (Ongoing Deadline)

Deadline: March 30, 2013

Artists and curators can apply for residencies at iscp. There are two ways of applying, a partner application or a direct application.

Residencies are between three and twelve months and are sponsored by governments, corporations, foundations, institutions, organizations, galleries and private patrons. Each artist or curator is provided with 24-hour access to their studio and wireless internet. In addition, all residents can use ISCP’s common areas. ISCP does not provide or arrange living accommodation, however, a number of partner sponsors, who send participants to ISCP each year, have a furnished apartment for residents. In addition, sponsors often give a stipend for accommodation, living expenses, travel and materials.

The International Museum of Women (IMOW): Muslima: Muslim Women's Art and Voices Call for Submission (ONGOING DEADLINE)

Muslima: Muslim Women’s Art & Voices, is a global online exhibition from the International Museum of Women (IMOW). Muslima presents a groundbreaking collection of thought pieces and artwork from contemporary Muslim women who are defining their own identities and, in the process, shattering pervasive stereotypes. Explore work from artists, activists, and thought-leaders around the world, representing a broad spectrum of Muslim realities and identities, addressing such topics as Power, Leadership, Appearance, Myths, Generations, Faith and Connection.

SUBMISSIONS
We are now accepting submissions! Muslima will grow over time, with the addition of voices and art from women around the globe.

THE CAMPAIGN
The work and voices presented in Muslima aims to inspire cross-cultural dialogue that will break down myths and stereotypes and build understanding. Join our “Speak Up! Spring-Summer Halka Art Project Residency Programme, Istanbul

Artists and researchers are invited in Istanbul for Spring / Summer 2013 term of Halka Art Project Residency Programme. Halka Art Project is an independent organisation based in Istanbul which focuses on the production, discourse and presentation of contemporary art and culture. Halka Art Project is not an artist hotel. It chooses projects or project ideas which are open for improvement. Halka Art Project works with the artists in the execution of their project in every step such as production, presentation, exhibition and promotion.

Call for Submissions: apexart’s Franchise Program

Deadline: May 3, 2013

On April 4th apexart’s Franchise Program will accept 500-word proposals for group exhibitions to take place anywhere in the world except New York City.

Exhibitions can be about any idea or theme that the organizer finds compelling. Past shows have explored highway construction in Mexico City; climate in Los Angeles; manufacturing in Bangkok; immigration in Stockholm; and video DJs in Kampala, Uganda. No prior curatorial experience is required and we welcome submissions from people of all backgrounds. An international jury of more than 100 people in multiple disciplines evaluates proposals and the three winning exhibitions will be presented in apexart’s 2014–2015 season.

Be part of our expanding vision and celebrate the Queens Museum’s grand reopening with a facility that doubles our original size in October 2013. In the spirit of expansiveness, for the first time, we invite, not just visual artists, but all creative folks in Queens to submit for the 6th edition of Queens International. Artists, visionaries, literati, impresarios, makers of all trades! Submit your materials and/or PROPOSE a new work, project, or innovative programming idea (educational, public events, performance-based, on- and off-site), catalogue design, exhibition design, and beyond. The selected works may be realized with modest financial assistance by the museum or presented in a proposal format in the exhibition.

Call for Applications: Casino Luxembourg

In 2014, Casino Luxembourg - Forum d'art contemporain will host the next edition of project room @ aquarium, an artist-in-residency programme based in the so-called "Aquarium", a 175 sqm steel and glass pavilion. This international residency programme is welcoming proposals taking full advantage of the place's very specific architecture, as well as applications aiming to stimulate exchange and debate in relation with the local context and socio-cultural issues in Luxembourg.

The Prince Claus Fund: Rethinking Public Space

The Prince Claus Fund welcomes project proposals for cultural initiatives related to the rethinking of public space. Through this call, the Prince Claus Fund aims to support creative cultural initiatives that re-think, re-appropriate and/or re-use the public space in innovative and new ways. The proposed projects should be linked to the local context. This call is open to individuals and organisations based in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Call for Applications: DEFAULT 13 Masterclass in Residence

DEFAULT 13 Masterclass residency in Lecce (Southern Italy) focuses on the role and perspectives of public art and its implications for the social, urban context as a tool for socio-cultural transformation. Eighteen creatives and artists (9 from Asia and 9 from Europe), selected through an international open call, will be given the opportunity to discuss and try to answer the question "What is next in art, cities and regeneration?"

For ten days, participants will develop their research approach in intensive workshops and seminar sessions, they will expand their networks and exchange know-how with the support of a residency curator, and they will meet international leading curators, artists, art managers and representatives of cultural and artistic organisations from both Europe and Asia.

Call for Solo, Group, and Concept Proposals, Manifest

Deadline: June 1, 2013

Manifest is seeking proposals of various types, and accepts these on an ongoing basis, reviewing them starting in early June in consideration for the upcoming season. No notifications are made until the final season schedule is decided (usually by the end of July).

On average one-third of Manifest's exhibits are dedicated to solo exhibits. Solo exhibitors have included local, regional, and national artists from as far away as New York City, San Francisco, and Hong Kong. It is important that each of our seasons of free public exhibits consist of a balanced mix of solo and group thematic projects. The group shows provide diversity of approach, media, style, and geographic origin, while the solo exhibits provide a deeper insight into one artist's vision.

Transart Institute: MFA and PhD Programs

Transart Institute offers an international low-residency MFA and a practice-based PhD program for working artists in a highly individualized format. The innovative MFA program consists of three intensive summer residencies with lectures, workshops, critiques, seminars, performances and exhibitions in Europe and two fall or spring residencies in New York. In the four semesters between residencies, students create their own course of study realizing individual art and research projects with the support of faculty and self-chosen artist advisors wherever they work and live.

Call for Submissions: The 6th Annual Noor Iranian Film Festival

Submissions are now open for Feature Films, Documentaries, Short Films, and Animations. Films from Iranian filmmakers, films made about Iran or Iranians, and films that include Iranians as part of the cast or crew qualify for submission.
The 6th Annual Noor Iranian Film Festival will take place in Los Angeles October 2013, and will travel to Daytona Beach, Seattle, Washington DC, New York, Chicago, Houston, San Diego, and San Francisco during the 2013-2014 seasons.
