Announcing HIKAYAT: Yalda 2024 – The Longest Night of the Year

ArteEast is thrilled to announce the launch of our new program: Hikayat

Save the date for the launch of HIKAYAT: Yalda 2024 – The Longest Night of the Year
Friday, December 20th at Brooklyn Art Haus!

HIKAYAT, which means “stories,” “tale,” or “narrative” in Arabic, Armenian, Persian, and Turkish, is a series of themed events where South West Asian and North Africa (SWANA) diasporic artists of New York share and celebrate stories from their community through live performance arts.

The evenings are hosted by an MC and feature readings, open mic sessions, a curated program of artistic performances, and conclude with a DJ set.

Our first HIKAYAT event is inspired by Yaldā Night—an ancient festival that honors the winter solstice, the longest and darkest night of the year, celebrated in many countries, including Iran, Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Iraqi Kurdistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Turkey.

The evening will feature an incredible lineup or artists and performers, including Haleh Liza Gafori, Muhammad Ali Mojaradi, Amitis Motevalli, Shiraz Fazli, Levani, Levon Kafafian, and Fatemeh Kazemi, among others. Stay tuned for more announcements in the coming weeks!

This program is supported by the Brooklyn Arts Council.
