Director of the Arab American National Museum

The Arab American National Museum is currently seeking candidates for the position of Director. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of Arab American history and skills, to visualize, develop and expand the organization’s mission. History teacher needed at the Wheaton College

The Department of History at Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts, seeks someone to teach two courses: History 251: Early Islamic Societies 600-1800 and History 352: Social Movements in Modern Islam in Fall semester 2013. Wheaton offers $5,000 per course. Each course must meet twice a week for 80 minutes each. Volunteering Opportunities During Art Dubai

Deadline: March 7, 2013

Caspian Arts Foundation will participate in Art Dubai in March. We will co-organise a highly interactive panel discussion with The Moving Museum addressing ‘New Directions: Art Education in the Middle East’ at the Global Art Forum on 22nd March. The panelists will address three main themes: the current art scene in the Middle East, the role of education as a catalyst for the future evolvement of arts and culture as well as proposals for supporting the next generation of artists in the region and their education in the arts.

In order to make sure the upcoming panel will run successfully, we are looking for 2-3 volunteers to assist our staff on the panel, which consists of handing out brochures, collecting information from guests and some other assistance.

Lecturer in Museum & Gallery Studies & the History of Art or Design

Ajam Media Collective: Call for Editors

The Ajam Media Collective (AjamMC.com) is an online community dedicated to documenting and analyzing cultural, social, and political trends in the diverse Iranian, Central Asian, and diaspora communities, and serves as a semi-scholarly resource by engaging with academics, activists, and students of the region.

Guggenheim: Associate Curator, Abu Dhabi Project

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation (SRGF) is seeking an Associate Curator. As a member of the Abu Dhabi Project team, the Associate Curator will report to the Deputy Director and Chief Curator, SRGF and the Deputy Director and Chief Officer for Global Strategies, SRGF. The Associate Curator will work in close association with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum’s senior curatorial staff and the staff of TCA (Tourism and Culture Authority) in Abu Dhabi to develop an ambitious international program of pre-opening exhibitions, public programs, focus groups, publications and commissions.

Guggenheim: Curator of Education and Community Outreach, Abu Dhabi Project

The Mosaic Rooms/AM Qattan Foundation, London: Press and Marketing Coordinator

The Mosaic Rooms/AM Qattan Foundation is looking for a part time Press & Marketing Coordinator, who will be responsible for the execution of press and marketing campaigns for our programme of exhibitions, events, collaborations and commercial activities.

The successful candidate will also be expected to take part in supporting the press and marketing campaigns of the SHUBBAK 2013 Festival of Contemporary Arab Culture in London. The AM Qattan Foundation is the festival’s main sponsor.  Working creatively with other members of the team you will generate ideas for developing audiences and also increasing income levels (through venue hire and bookshop sales).

The ideal candidate will have experience of working within an arts environment and leading successful marketing and press campaigns from conception to completion. Excellent written, organisational, digital and communication skills are required, combined with a genuine passion for the arts. An existing network of press and media contacts would be advantageous. You should be available to commence employment ideally at the beginning of March. The position is for three days a week.

The Director provides the overall creative and administrative leadership of CIC, towards the implementation of our mission. The Director will engage in strategic planning with the goal of institutional development, positioning and sustainability in line with the Board's vision. With the support of CIC staff, the director will lead or oversee day-to-day operations, financial management, fundraising, marketing, public/community relations, and human resource management. The Director will work closely with the Curator and the PhotoSchool Manager in order to lead the development of inspirational programmes and educational opportunities.

Contemporary Image Collective (CIC) is an independent non-profit art initiative founded in Egypt in 2004. CIC’s mission spans art, media and educational programming that responds to and develops practices and discourses engaged with the image in its various forms and mediums.

CIC has a special interest in the many urgent roles of the photographic image within society and media. Through CIC PhotoSchool we provide courses, workshops, and facilities, aimed at local and regional capacity to develop a broad and critically effective visual media landscape. Digitization Officer at Arab Image Foundation, Beirut

The Arab Image Foundation is recruiting a Digitisation Officer.

Description:

The Digitisation Officer will work closely with the AIF Collection Manager. Tasks will include but not be restricted to
 
- digitisation of photographic collections.
- retouching and colour correction.
- managing the AIF’s digital archive.

The position is available from 1 March 2013 and is offered on a part-time basis. Training will be provided from 25 to 28 February 2013.

The Arab Image Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the collection, preservation and study of photography and other related visual material from the Middle East, North Africa and the Arab diaspora. Established in Beirut in 1997, the foundation holds a collection of more than 600,000 photographs from the mid nineteenth century through today. Since its inception, the AIF has produced fifteen exhibitions and seven publications in partnership with international museums, galleries and cultural institutions.

Associate Curator, Architecture and Design, Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the world’s finest museums, seeks a specialist in Architecture & Design for the Modern & Contemporary Department. The Associate Curator will participate in research, development and active management of the Modern and Contemporary collection and the Breuer project; initiation of collection displays, major special exhibitions, publications and interpretation; and participation in all activities of the Department.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
Participation in review of architecture, design and other related aspects of the collection;
Participation in devising departmental collection and research strategies, and delivering them;
Initiation and organization of collection displays and special exhibitions including research, catalog entries, other texts and database maintenance for Museum programs and the Breuer project;
Fostering and maintaining good working relationships with donors, patrons, collectors, colleagues from other international institutions, the scholarly community, dealers, and other individuals involved with the interests of the Museum;
Author and essayist for general and specialized publications and other content, printed and online;
Answering correspondence relating to Collection; assisting the public and visiting scholars;
Contribution to public programs (Learning, Volunteers, and so on);
Interaction with potential sponsors; fundraising as appropriate;
Involvement with planning programs for Modern & Contemporary Friends’ groups.

AUB Art Galleries: Administrative Assistant/ Exhibition Coordinator

 Basic Functions:
Provides administrative support, assisting in the management and maintenance of two exhibition spaces and of the AUB collection; handles communication, education and outreach programs; assists in financial accountability; assists with the organization of exhibitions; coordinates events independently or as part of a team; contributes to fundraising activities. Opportunities for curating independent events and for writing and publishing will be available. This job entails working for long after-hours or during the weekends especially in times of events and exhibition preparations.     


Minimum Requirements:
B.A. degree plus 3 years’ experience.
Knowledge of Arabic, English, and French (spoken and written).
Proficiency with Microsoft Office on both Windows and Mac OS platforms.
Knowledge of Adobe Suite, WordPress, and Content Management Systems is a valuable asset.
Experience and/or education in cultural policy, cultural management is an asset. Familiarity with art history is highly encouraged. Experience working in an artistic environment is preferred.
