Artslink Independent Projects Grant

Deadline: December 3, 2012

Independent Projects awards provide funding to artists and arts managers who propose to undertake projects in the United States in collaboration with a US non-profit arts organization or individual artist. Applicants must have a letter of invitation from a US partner in order to apply for an Independent Projects award. Awardees are responsible for arranging all the details of the project including all travel and housing arrangements. Proposals must be thoroughly researched and clearly describe the project. They must include a detailed budget that indicates exact resources and expenses.

Support is provided to create new work that draws inspiration from interaction with artists and the community in the US; to establish mutually beneficial exchange of ideas and expertise between artists, arts organizations and the local community and to pursue artistic cooperation that will enrich creative or professional development or has potential to expand the community's access to the art of other cultures.

ArtsLink Awards supports arts exchanges between the US and the following countries and regions: Afghanistan, Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Palestinian territories, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.

MFA Scholarships at the Unschool Art School

NRW KULTURsekretariat: Dance Research

Deadline: November 30, 2012

The NRW KULTURsekretariatis offering 6–12 week (May to July 2013) performing arts residencies for dancers, choreographers and performers. These are to be used for thematic research projects, which should not be focused on a production.

Rent-free accommodation for 1–2 people, plus a grant of up to €7,500, according to the nature and scope of the research project. Personal support, mentoring and guidance. The NRW KULTURsekretariat will also provide access to its institutions and experts. Should any production emerge from the research projects, the Kultursekretariat will support any performances staged in NRW.

Only applications submitted online with a description of the proposed research, references and a CV will be accepted. Closing date: 30 November 2012.

Cda-Projects, Istanbul Grant for Artistic Research and Production

Cda-Projects Grant is offering a 10,000 Euro grant to support the production of an artistic research project. 

Projects
The grant aims at supporting and opening up discussions on artistic research to an expanded network through an open call. It encourages speculative approaches to how discourse is staged and how knowledge is produced, rethought and interwoven across disciplines. Without any limitations on the content, the proposed inquiries are expected to suggest new forms and methodologies by reflecting on contexts and conditions of the knowledge produced.

Publication
Cda-Projects Grant will also support a publication after the completion of the project that brings together discussions on the artistic research undertaken, including the questions raised, speculative analysis and the final outcome. The publication will be prepared by Cda-Projects Grant in cooperation with the grant recipient. 

Eligibility
Authors (includes artists, curators, writers, thinkers etc…) of any nationality, regardless of age, can propose projects to be carried out individually or collectively.
Applicants can submit an artistic research project that is currently in the production stage or one that is scheduled to be completed during the sixmonth period following the date of selection.

The Darat al Funun Dissertation Fellowship: Modern and Contemporary Art of the Arab World

Deadline: November 15, 2012

Darat al Funun-The Khalid Shoman Foundation is pleased to announce the 2013-14 dissertation fellowship.  The fellowship was established in 2011 to encourage research on modern and contemporary art of the Arab world.  The fellowship provides financial support of up to ten thousand dollars to Ph.D. candidates in the hummanities and social sciences.

One to three fellowships will be granted.  The fellowship duration can range from 4-12 months of residency at Durat al Funun in Amman, Jordan.  Fellows are expected to pursue their own research, give at least one public lecture, and participate in Darat al Funun's cultural and artistic activities.  Upon completeion of the fellowship, fellows are required to submit a five to seven page research report that will be available on Darat al Funun's website.  Fellowship fundng is intended to compensate tavel and stipened expenses.  Darat al Funun will provide housing and office space.

Arte Laguna Prize: Call for Submissions

The Italian Cultural Association MoCA (Modern Contemporary Art), in collaboration with Arte Laguna, organizes the Seventh Edition of the International Art Prize “Arte Laguna”, aimed at promoting and enhancing contemporary art. The total value of the Prize is 170000 Euros. 
The Prize obtained a medal by the President of the Italian Republic, with the patronage of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Veneto Region, the Municipality of Venice, Cà Foscari University of Venice, and the European Institute of Design among others. The contest features the awarding of cash prizes, the organization of an important collective exhibition in Venice, exhibitions in Art Galleries, Art Residencies and the publication of the official Catalogue. The Prize is divided into five sections: painting, photographic art, sculpture and installation, video and performance, and virtual art. Participants can freely choose the subject of their artworks.


The Prize is open to all Artists, without any limit of age, sex, nationality or other qualifications. Each artist can participate with one or more artworks, in one or more sections.

Akbank Sanat International Curator Competition 2012, Turkey

Akbank Sanat announces the first edition of the International Curator Competition. Curators from around the world are encouraged to submit proposals by November 5, 2012.

Akbank Sanat International Curator Competition is intended to provide support for emerging curators, reinforce interest in curatorial practices, and encourage new projects in the field of contemporary art. Developed and coordinated by Basak Senova, the competition has an application-based process. The content and the quality of the proposals will be evaluated by an international jury consisting of three curators. This year's jury includes Jack Persekian (director of the Al-Ma'mal Foundation for Contemporary Art in Jerusalem and the artistic director of Darat Al Funun, The Khalid Shoman Foundation, Amman), Francis McKee (director of CCA, Glasgow, tutor and research fellow at Glasgow School of Art), and Basak Senova (independent curator).

The winning curator is given opportunities to realize the proposal as an exhibition that will run from February 15–April 30, 2013 at Akbank Art Centre, Istanbul, accompanied by an exhibition catalogue and additional activities. The curatorial fee, the exhibition production, travel expenses of the curator/s and artists, the production of the catalogue and the additional activities will be covered by Akbank Sanat.

Al Mawred Al Thaqafy: Culture Resource Production Award for Arab Female Artists

This program aims to encourage and support a new generation of Arab artists and writers by funding their early projects in the various fields of arts and culture. Culture Resource (Al Mawred Al Thaqafy) also provides young creators with advice on managing their productions and promoting them.  Applications accepted from young artists and writers from all Arab countries to produce their own art projects in the various fields of arts and culture. Culture Resource (Al Mawred Al Thaqafy) is welcoming the applications submitted by females.

The program provides grants of up to US $6,000 in the fields of theater, literature, visual arts, and music, and US $10,000 in the field of cinema/video.  Projects with budgets that exceed US $12,000 in the fields of theater, literature, visual arts, and music, and US $20,000 in the field of cinema/video, are not eligible for support from this program.  For more information, click here.
 



Berlinale Co-Production Market, Experienced Producers Apply for Funding

Deadline: October 24, 2012

Experienced producers from all over the world seeking international co-production and financing partners are invited to submit new feature film projects to the 10th Berlinale Co-Production Market. Approximately 20 projects will be selected.  At the co-production market, to be held from February 10 to 12, 2013 during the 63th Berlin International Film Festival, selected producers are to meet with interested potential co-producers, financiers, sales agents, distributors, television broadcasters, and funders.

The projects must meet the following criteria:
  • Feature-length fiction project with international market potential (for theatrical release)
  • Suitable for international co-production and open to co-producers
  • Full script available
  • Budget between € 1.5 and 20 million (min. € 1 million for projects from countries in transition)
  • A minimum of 30% of the financing, or at least the local production support, must already be secured.
  • The production company must have completed at least one international co-production.

Visions Sud Est: Production and Post-Production Grants for International Films

Deadline: October 24, 2012

Visions Sud Est encourages independent production and subsequent distribution in Switzerland and in Europe of full-length (with a duration of at least 70 minutes) cinema fictional films and documentaries in postproduction (no short films, no TV films!) from the South and East. This support should furthermore play a 'catalyst' role for the film industry in the country of origin of the production.

All the projects for which financial support is requested must be proposed exclusively by a company based in a country from the South (Africa, Latin America and Asia) or from Eastern Europe (excluding EU members) and regularly producing films by filmmakers in these countries. Therefore, the main part of the project must be shot in these countries and - except in special circumstances - in the local or regional language.

The Arts Catalyst and the Department of Geography, Royal Holloway, University of London: PhD Curating Art and Science

Applications are invited for a fully funded PhD studentship with The Arts Catalyst and the Department of Geography, Royal Holloway, University of London. This is a new AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Award opportunity in “Curating Art and Science: New Methods and Sites of Production and Display”.

 

Recent contemporary arts projects have directly engaged with, or taken as their subject, a range of sites, spaces, practices, ideas, and cultures of science and advanced technology. These trans-disciplinary art projects present highly varied contexts for research, production and exhibition, and working alongside The Arts Catalyst this studentship will investigate the practical, curatorial and production demands posed by these projects. Exploring and potentially participating in the commissioning and curation of arts projects that engage with science critically and experimentally, this studentship will ask research questions including:

 

- How do art-science projects engage and extend the practices of curation?
- What sorts of critical engagements with the spaces of scientific research and artistic production do these projects generate?
- What lessons can be learnt about the challenges and possibilities these projects raise for cultural producers and curators?
- How do art-science projects contribute to our understandings of the geographies of art and science?

 

The deadline for applications is 22nd October 2012. The successful applicant will start in January 2013. Interviews will be held in early November.

Visual AIDS and Residency Unlimited: Curatorial Residency in NYC

A one-month residency, to take place in February or March of 2013, in New York City for a curator, art historian, or arts writer interested in the intersection of visual art and HIV/AIDS. Co-sponsored by Visual AIDS and Residency Unlimited, the curatorial residency seeks to encourage the development of exhibitions, programs, and scholarship about HIV/AIDS and contemporary art.

Residency Unlimited will provide the curator with customized administrative and network support, shared office space at 360 Court Street in Brooklyn and a venue for a public program (lecture/screening/discussion) defined in conjunction with RU and Visual AIDS. Concurrently, the resident curator will conduct research in Visual AIDS’ Archive Project. The Visual AIDS office is located in the Chelsea art district in New York City. With over 17,000 images by 442 artists, the Archive Projects hold works from artists living with HIV and the estates of artists who have passed away. Studio visits with artists from the Archive Project are encouraged. The resident curator is invited to create an online exhibition to be hosted by Visual AIDS.

The resident curator will be invited to produce a free, public event co-hosted by RU and Visual AIDS. Panel discussions, film screenings, performances, or a lecture illuminating the curator’s use of the Archive Project or a presentation of international cultural production around HIV/AIDS are examples of potential programs.  The residency includes a $3,000 budget for housing, living expenses, and round-trip transportation to New York.  For more information, please click here.



The Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC): General Grant Program

The Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC) is now accepting proposals in the categories of Cinema, Music, RTR (Research, Training and Regional Events) as part of its General Grant program.

Cinema: AFAC offers funding for the development/scripting, production and post-production of animation, documentary, experimental and narrative films in short and feature lengths.
• Music: AFAC offers funding for music production, performances, collaborations, album recordings and other musical projects.
• RTR: AFAC offers funding for Research, Training and Regional Events (RTR) including studies and workshops in cultural and artistic fields, collaborative projects among artists and academics, multi-media libraries, archives and cultural documentation.

Applications are exclusively open to Arab individuals and entities. Proposed project should be relevant to the Arab region.
Applications must be submitted online between July 31st and October 21st, 2012.
Applications can be submitted in either Arabic or in English.

Archisle, Channel Islands: International Photographer in Residence Program

Archisle: The Jersey Contemporary Photography Programme, hosted by the Société Jersiaise (Jersey Society) in the British Channel Island of Jersey promotes contemporary photography through an ongoing programme of exhibitions, education and commissions. The Archisle project connects photographic archives, contemporary practice and experiences of island cultures and geographies through the development of a space for creative discourse between Jersey and international practitioners.

Archisle is currently inviting applications for the position of Photographer in Residence launching in 2013. This is an exciting new post commencing in April/May running for six months through to September/October 2013. The residency provides the following key benefits and opportunities:
- £10,000 bursary for the commission/production of a body of work and solo exhibition
- Studio space with access to inkjet printing and office/internet resources
- Living accommodation and (limited) expenses
- Travel costs

A key focus of the Archisle project is to engage the residency programme with Jersey culture and community through audience and participatory involvement. In addition to the commission and exhibition of work responding to the cultural context of the island of Jersey, the resident will be contracted to teach photography one day per week (or equivalent) over the six month duration of the project. This teaching will be delivered in a workshop format to a range of educational and community groups. Applications are therefore encouraged from practitioners possessing the desire, enthusiasm and a proven ability to impart technical skills and develop critical understanding of contemporary photography across a diverse range of participants.

Films En Cours: Post-Production Support

For the 4th year, the companies Cosmodigital, Gomedia, Mikros Image and PolySon join EntreVues-Belfort in order to support young filmmakers and help them to finish their films.  The awarded film will receive the following technical services : 
digital color grading,  mixing finalization, post-synchronization or subtitling, mastering DCP.  Winners films will be screened at the Belfort Film Festival on November 28-29.
