Arie Amaya-Akkermans

(b. 1984, Bogotá, Colombia) is based between Beirut and Istanbul. Amaya-Akkermans is a researcher, critic and curator with a particular focus on the broader Middle East region, with interests in aesthetic theory, contemporary art and visual cultures. He has been an assistant curator for galleries in Bahrain and Lebanon, and as a writer has contributed to specialized publications such as ReOrient, CANVAS, RES Art World, San Francisco Arts Quarterly, Selections, Hyperallergic, and gallery publications in Bahrain, UAE, Turkey, Lebanon and Spain. In 2015 he has been selected to take part in the working group 'Art and Cultural Production in the GCC' to be held at Georgetown University in Qatar, and awarded an expert visit fellowship in Stockholm by the Swedish Arts Grants Committee.
