Since its inception, ArteEast has strived to create spaces to showcase, promote, and support the creative work of artists, filmmakers, writers, and other creators with ties to the MENA region. Through programs including the ArteEast Quarterly Journal, ArteEast-sponsored residencies, exhibitions, and other programming, we give creators a platform to cultivate audiences in the United States while building powerful networks to support them in their creative and professional growth.
Since 2011, our most intensive program has been the ArteEast Residency Program, which sponsors artists and filmmakers from the MENA region to undertake career-enriching residencies at some of the United States’ most prestigious residency programs. Residencies are generally 4-12 weeks long and are hosted by premier residency programs including Art Omi, Residency Unlimited, Sculpture Space, and the MacDowell Colony. Each residency includes a curated “ArteEast Connect” experience in New York City, through which creators-in-residence have opportunities to showcase their work through film screenings, artist talks, and other public engagements, while connecting through one-on-one meetings with our network of influencers, including curators, arts programmers, museum professionals, and gallerists.
