To the question asked “why do I photograph?” the answer is plural,

Yet obsessed with the same concern, that of giving substance

To unusual and familiar apparitions playing along with me throughout my journey.

Transvestites, deported, fools, nonconformist wandering beings, randomly caught

Through chance encounters or chosen for a pose, they all are my fellow-travellers.

I put them in specific locations in empty streets, in port cities, in trucks,

Wharves, piers, hospital discharges, places of desolation,

Precisely where places and people live together almost despite themselves.

An underground tunnel we visit.

A scenography of the unconscious.

I catch them, jot them out of themselves and put them in the crowd

To better highlight their loneliness and strangeness.

I fit them in the middle of beasts or on walls

Strangers to themselves, taken out of the original fantasy.

The world is full of ghostly beings, should it be said again?

Photography is there to give them a face

Photography becomes the revealer of margin.

By photocomposition or staging I move them

In a fictional device.

That is where is played the history of borders, this hazy line

This uncertainty, this accuracy of distress telling the singular story

Of each individual, maintained by a personal imaginary

A representation born of reality and collective memory.

These immured, these children, these shaved head convalescents,

These scantily clad fools lying around in stadiums, these drowned brides

These castaways, aren’t they our doubles, our other selves?

Our reflections coming across every corner of the world which pass through our

Story and describe us.

A tragic orchestration of the world, an opera of the exile where beings of the secret and beings of the

Margin found refuge.
